1:1200 ORTHO_FF consists of high resolution, 24-bit color orthophotography. Flown in May 2003 the ortho-rectified digital imagery covers all of Fort Fairfield, Maine. These digital images have a pixel resolution (or ground sample distance GSD) of 1/2 foot, are precision geo-referenced and ortho-rectified, and accurate for 1"=100' mapping applications. The digital orthoimagery has been made available by the Bradstreet Consultants, Inc. and the Town of Fort Fairfield.
Original file sizes were: 100 images at 1800 meters by 1200 meters, butt matched with no overlap and an image file size of 281 MB; and 24 images at 900 meters by 600 meters, with a file size of 70 MB and also butt matched with no overlap. For distribution in the Maine GIS Internet Data Catalog the 24, 900 meter x 600 meter files, were appended into 6, 1800 meter by 1200 meter files. The lower left or southwestern-most photo number was used to identify each of the appended tiles. A file index, INDEX_FF reflects this change recording 106 reference numbers.

Abstract:
ORTHO_FF orthophotography of Fort Fairfield, Maine compiled by Bradstreet Consultants, Inc. in the year 2003. Features were collected from aerial photography taken May 20, 2003. Airborne GPS, IMU, and ground control were all used to control the project. All features were compiled in Kork Digital Mapping System then translated using AutoCAD to files for use in ArcGIS. The orthophotography in ORTHO_FF has a ground spacing value of 0.15 meters or 1/2 foot GSD and provide a digital photographic map suitable for applications requiring a 1:1200 National Map Accuracy Standard (NMAS).
Purpose:
To provide accurate orthorectified imagery covering the Town of Fort Fairfield.
The seamless presentation is available to Maine GIS users through direct connection to the MEGIS Oracle/ArcSDE database, to anyone with Internet Browser access for viewing through an Internet ArcIMS application at http://megisims.state.me.us/website/orthomap/viewer.htm and for free download from the Maine GIS Internet Data Catalog.

ORTHO_FF is available from Maine GIS in three presentation formats. First as a seamless mosaic of the original images in .TIFF format stored in Oracle 9i for users of ArcSDE, second through the Maine GIS ArcIMS ORTHO viewer at http://megisims.state.me.us/website/orthomap/viewer.htm, and third, TIFF images in MrSID compression format, available for free download from the Maine GIS Internet Data Catalog.
The image names of the MrSID files were created with the same 10 digit numeric designations originally assigned by the vendor.
Both ArcExplorer 4.0.1 (free for download from http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer/index.html) and the ArcGIS 9.x module ArcMap accept a URL for "adding" data from an Internet location. Open ArcCatalog, select "GIS Servers", select "Add ArcIMS Server", at URL of server type http://megisims.state.me.us and select "Get List", select "orthomap" or "basemap", etc. Use the connection in created in ArcMap to access high resolution orthophotography and data from other MEGIS Internet Map Services without data storage or data management costs.
